DESCRIPTION VoiKiosk is like voice-based information kiosk or voice based portal. VoiKiosk is designed and developed by IBM Research to reach out to masses based on oral communication, which is the forte of country like India. Voikiosks are a central point of access for a community where information relevant to the community can be posted and accessed directly by the users themselves. This solution doesn't rely on internet connectivity. It allows end users to directly interact with the services removing the dependence on the kiosk operator. VoiKiosk is a voice based service available on the Telecom network and based on World Wide Telecom Web technology. In partnership with Byrraju Foundation, a kiosk template of this kind was deployed for a group of villages in Andhra Pradesh. A local village resident is primarily responsible for uploading content and maintaining this VoiKiosk as a Kiosk Operator. Together with Byrraju Foundation, IBM Research is working on field testing and consolidating the viability of VoiKiosk to take it to masses gradually
CITATION Most of the South Asia countries like India are oral in communication and thus availing any content and services in written becomes subject to literacy and education, which deprives larger part of the society. To overcome such situations, the IBM Research product in partnership with Byrraju Foundation, VoiKiosk, is a voice-based portal or voice based toll-free interactive information kiosk. The unique feature of Voikiosk is unlike conventional info kiosks which are based on hearing infrastructure, electricity, computers and toned to travel long distances to avail the services, VoiKiosk is telephone based kiosk which not only allows series of services but also allows feeding of content and services. After the success of its field testing in Andhra Pradesh, Voikiosk iosk looks like the final frontier of reaching out to the rural masses.
